Freedom Highway: Williams Lake to Bella Coola Professional Review and Guide
"This eTrail is a 460-kilometer (276-mile) drive across the vast Chilcotin Plateau from the interior to the coast, passing through one of the loneliest corners of the province. Along the way, the opportunities to go on scenic side trips are virtually endless. The second half of the drive, particularly from Tweedsmuir Provincial Park west, is one breathtaking vista after another as the highway descends the legendary “Hill” and passes beneath fierce summits on the way to the ocean at Bella Coola. Much of the drive is through ranch country with a tangible outback feel to it.
Special attractions: The list is endless and includes the greatest concentration of high peaks in BC, unparalleled opportunities for accessible wilderness exploration, numerous tour and guide outfitter companies, a real feeling of detachment from the modern world, working ranches, the descent down the “Hill,” the roadside views of mountains and glaciers in the Bella Coola Valley, potential grizzly bear sightings in Tweedsmuir Park, and the opportunity to sail back to Vancouver Island on BC Ferries and see the majestic Pacific coast of BC on one of the three Land and Sea Circle Tours listed in the book."
