Long a favourite destination for fishermen and picnickers, Derby Reach has become more attractive to those of us who like to stretch our legs now that a trail along the river links the Edgewater fishing bar to the eastern section of this park at the cairn marking the location of the original Fort Langley. Built in 1827, in its heyday the fort was a centre of pioneer agricultural settlement and trade in the lower Fraser Valley. Today, from the heritage area focusing on this early period, a short path connects with the Houston Trail, a hiking and equestrian circuit meandering through forest.
