As well as an insight into forest management, the network of trails and roads in this department of the Squamish Forest District offers the day hiker a choice of routes embracing various spectacles of nature. The circular journey described, comprising Riverside, Crater Rim and Ridge trails, takes you beside a tumultuous river, circles the rim of a volcanic crater, and provides dramatic views of surrounding valleys and mountains. Allow plenty of time—Crater Rim Trail has some steep sections and the modest statistics don’t tell the whole story.
