Easy hiking with some moderate climbs and navigational challenges. The hiking is enjoyable near the headwaters of Alexander Creek. The GDT mostly follows ATV trails but you do get the opportunity to do some straightforward cross-country travel. Adjacent to the Continental Divide, the route gives continuous views but I do not highly recommend this segment owing to the industrial footprint in the area. All the roads, cut-blocks, seismic lines, hand-cut lines and the Line Creek Mine threaten your enjoyment. Owing to the industrial activity in the area, roads and trails do shift locations. You might have to adjust your actual route from the one described in the guidebook. The GDT is still covered in snow in late June. This last ford of Alexander Creek makes for an unexpected swim!
