Saltery Bay Provincial Park to Rathtrevor Beach Provincial Park is not only the longest section of the British Columbia ride, it is also the most scenic. Despite the long distance, the entire day will not be spent riding as the route includes a 75-minute ferry ride from Powell River, on the mainland, to Comox, on Vancouver Island. Start your day early and pedal hard to be in time for the first ferry departure of the day. The Powell River to Vancouver Island ferry is more like a cruise ship than an auto transport. Enjoy the large sitting and dining rooms, decks for lounging or strolling, and tremendous views. On cold, wet days, it is tempting to pay passage back and forth a few times. The Comox dock at Little River marks the true starting point for the journey south to Mexico. Roads are good and shoulders adequate in most areas. Expect some commercial traffic at all times and considerable tourist traffic during the summer and on weekends. The terrain consists of low, rolling hills with an occasional spectacular view across the Strait of Georgia to the mainland.
