This trail is located in North Vancouver at the north end of the Mountain Highway. Mountain Highway takes you 9.4 kilometres (5.64 miles) up a winding doubletrack ending at the boundary to the Grouse Mountain ski area. Along the climb, as you wind your way through seven switchbacks, a number of singletrack runs drop away to the right and left. Once you pass the final switchback, the views begin to open up, with some exquisite views toward Burrard Inlet and Lion's Gate Bridge. Although many riders use this trail strictly as an access to singletrack descents, it is a great ride in its own right. It offers beginner and intermediate riders a great workout and rewarding views near the turn-around point. On the way down, you get your own brand of downhill- but avoid going too fast or you'll risk smearing riders grinding their way uphill. Excellent views toward the city of Vancouver and the Lion's Gate Bridge.

The perfect length for a good weekend workout. The seventh switchback, and a slight ease in grade, came at exactly the right time. The view at the top is great, and the trail was practically empty when I rode it (on a Friday). I'll definitely be going back, and recommending it to friends.
