This pleasant, up-and-down hike is suitable for an energetic family who can take a little scrambling in their stride. Choose a clear day and allow plenty of time to enjoy the splendid all-round view from the summit. Wild flowers, mosses and coral root grace the forest glades in their seasons. The main challenge may be getting to the trailhead. Some stretches of the forest service road can be rough; a four-wheel-drive vehicle is ideal—otherwise go carefully.
