Almost 20 miles of trails traverse this park. The one through Wildhorse Canyon makes for an ideal early- or late-season hike, before the blistering heat of summer or the frigid freeze of winter. Most of this trail follows the original route of the fur-trading brigades of the midnineteenth century. It almost became a provincial highway, but local activists convinced government officials to preserve this historic trail. In 1973 the park was established. Now instead of sharing this route with buzzing semis and overstuffed SUVs, it’ll be just you, your pooch, and a whole lot of wild critters.
