As you reach the high point of the Coquihalla Highway, the eye tends to be drawn to the rock wall of Yak Peak to the north of the road. This unfortunately distracts you from looking to the south where Needle Peak rises on the divide between Boston Bar Creek and the Coquihalla River. Needle Peak is a fine-looking rocky summit that is popular as both a summer and a winter destination. One of its attractions as a backcountry ski trip is the safety of the well-defined west ridge, which turns to become a well-defined north-running ridge towards the highway. This is also the summer route.
