Just east and north of the village of Yale is a dome of rock pierced by Highway 1; this is Mount Lincoln. Although steep, it does have a rough track up it, several exposed sections being fitted with standing ropes to give you confidence. At many places on the trail and from the summit you have fine views over the little town and along the Fraser Canyon with its road and two railway tracks, one on either side of the river. If you dislike Mount Lincoln’s steep, rocky terrain or if you want another short hike to fill your day, the Spirit Caves Trail to the south of the village is also described.
