This ride, like the others in this area, mixes a great combination of elevation and scenery along its 23.4-mile out-and-back route. From the valley bottom, the views quickly focus on the majesty of the Freshfield Icefield and the lush growth along the steep avalanche slopes of Fisher Peak. As you continue to climb, the views continue to expand. As the trail becomes contained within the Ensign Creek drainage, you'll discover some excellent views of the Waputik Range. This mountain range forms the Continental Divide and the boundary with Banff National Park. Hidden from view along this route are the many glaciers of the Wapta Icefield that lie at the base of these immense mountains.
