This pancake-flat interpretive trail provides excellent views of Emerald Lake and area mountain peaks. The trail includes a 3.4-kilometer wheelchair-accessible section. Gorgeous, but incredibly busy. That’s how we’d sum up our experience at Emerald Lake—a regular stop on the tour bus circuit. The good news is that relatively few tourists venture past the lodge and gift shop at the south end of the lake.

This is a very attractive very easy, almost level trail. We found it much less crowded than the description led us to believe. The Emerald Lake Lodge is very close to the start of the trail, and few venture farther than the lodge going in a counter-clockwise direction. More begin the trail clockwise, where it is very smooth and ok for wheelchairs, but still it wasn't crowded. Betting to the place where you can see the Burgess Shale, one of the msot famous sites in the world for evolutionary biology, is a nice extra.
