Here is a sporting outing, with, for a bonus, the historical overtones of the area’s cedar-cutting industry: a walk that takes you up by one trail with return by another; a walk, too, that may be longer or shorter. The choice is up to you. One possible beginning is from Gilmour Road, reached from the ferry by following Highway 101 and, where it coincides with North Road, by turning right onto Cemetery Road, then going right again on Gilmour Road to where it is intersected by a power line. Having parked, you should head west up the right-of-way to Keith Road, the continuation of Cemetery. On it, you go right before turning left below Boothill Ranch R.V. Park on a quiet track that brings you to the gate to Mount Elphinstone Pioneer Cemetery. Walk up the road to the cemetery to find your trail bearing the sign “Mt. Elphinstone Trail” starting uphill from just to the left.
