The best reason to take this 12.96-mile out-and-back is for the quick access it provides to the 4.2-mile hiking trail to Tocher Ridge Lookout. From the summit, the views stretch in all directions: to the north, the glacier-capped peaks of the Presidents Range; to the south, the intricately carved peaks of the Van Horne Range. The ride itself is more limiting. Beginning along the wide gravel of the Kicking Hose Fire Road, you'll see some views of the Ottertail Range across the valley. Once you leave the wide channel of the Kicking Horse behind, you head northwest and follow the winding Otterhead River.
