Strenuous hiking on a good trail with much elevation gain and loss. Several lakes are in the vicinity of the expansive meadow of Fording River Pass. The route drapes across bald ridge crests and the vast meadows of Fording River Pass. This pass is the northern terminus of the original 92.7 km-long Great Divide Trail but not the end of good hiking to the north. The route continues down Aldridge Creek to the Elk River valley bottom on an interesting trail.
