This easy hike through streamside forests follows the Cowichan River, a popular camping and fishing destination. Located along the trail are Marie Canyon and the 66 Mile Trestle. The 64.4 Mile and Holt Creek Trestles are also spectacular side trips. Spawning salmon may be viewed in season at Skutz Falls. In 1996 the provincial government designated the Cowichan River a B.C. Heritage River to preserve the river’s natural environment. While this designation carries no legislative powers, it emphasizes the natural, cultural, and recreational values of the river during land-use planning with an eye toward protecting these values. In keeping with this philosophy, the river was recently nominated as a Canadian Heritage River.
