The access to this area improved recently when the University of British Columbia (UBC) Varsity Outdoor Club put in a new trail to their Brian Waddington Memorial Hut on the shore of Long Lake, in the drainage of Phelix Creek’s west fork. If you do not find creek crossings exhilarating, pass on this hike! Although the area around the lake is still treed, access to the alpine ridges of the southern Cadwallader Range and the peaks of Mounts Gandalf, Aragorn and Shadowfax is straightforward. There have been no confirmed sightings of hobbits in the area.
