Although much of this hike is on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) track, it leads through the Barkley Valley, a unique area with an interesting and varied history. The final kilometer is foot-access only and leads up the well-named Crystal Creek to two beautiful alpine lakes. The trail gives easy access to the high open ridges on the divide between Haylmore and Melvin Creeks. Melvin is an unlogged watershed: experience this virgin area now before it becomes a destination resort!
