This trail is northeast of Courtenay. If you're not an expert downhiller, Mount Washington has one ride that still gives you a taste of the area while foregoing the extreme fall-line drops. This trail drops from the village in a 1.75 km (1.05 mile) loop. The loop stays near the base of the mountain, following a wide doubletrack across numerous ski runs and under the Green and Eagle Express Quad Chairs. After crossing another three runs, it drops down to the left and comes out at the base of the Red Chair. A quick uphill roll will bring you back to your car. Along the ride, periodic views t the south focus on the many peaks of Strathcona Provincial Park, along with Mount Brooks and Mount Elma. The ski hills are also a haven for wildflowers, including valerian and false hellebore.
