Mundy Park is undoubtedly Coquitlam’s great oasis. The 190 ha (435 acres) of coniferous and deciduous forest atop Austin Heights have been left virtually undisturbed since they were logged at the turn of the century. Beyond the fringe of recreation facilities along the park’s western boundary, hundred-year-old Douglas firs, cedars and hemlocks tower over an understorey of alder, birch and vine maple. The two small lakes in the park are fringed with swamp laurel and Labrador tea, and support rare swamp and king gentians. Highlights: Forest and lake; nurse stumps; ferns, wildflowers, bog plants; woodland birds. Terrain: Flat. Sawdust and gravel trails.
