Painted Chasm Professional Review and Guide
"The Cariboo's answer to the Grand Canyon, Painted Chasm is the central feature of the newly-expanded Chasm Provincial Park. The name refers to the mineral-pigmented, multi-layered nature of the canyon walls, built up over thousands of years by the successive flows of lava that, layer by layer, built up the Fraser Plateau. The gorge itself is reminiscent of the canyon at Helmecken Falls in Wells Gray Park, but lacks the latter's spectacular waterfall."
--Colin Campbell, Trails of the Southern Cariboo (Rocky Mountain Books).
