Cheam Peak Professional Review and Guide
"As the Lions are to Vancouver, so Cheam Peak is to the eastern Fraser Valley; it is dominant over Highway 1 between Chilliwack and Hope. Until recently the route to this eminence was the long slog from the valley floor at Popkum to gain the ridge some 2 hours southwest of the peak. That demanding hike was fully 30 km (19 mi), climbed 2080 m (6825 ft) in elevation and occupied all of a very long day. In the early years of the last century it was an annual pilgrimage made by whole families: one hundred people on the top was nothing unusual! Think on that as you drive to within 2 hours of the top of the world. Now just a short hike allows you to have the Fraser Valley spread out at your feet—with views to Vancouver if the smog is not too thick."
