This vigorous hike through low- to middle-elevation forest leads to one of the more popular backcountry camping areas in the park. Pick up the trail at the south end of Buttle Lake and walk through mature forest and a fen wonderland to two craggy lakes. Both Bedwell and Baby Bedwell offer low-impact camping on tenting platforms. Food caches are available to outwit the bears. Bedwell Lake is the jumping-off point for a number of popular alpine routes, all of which take in the snowcapped peaks of Strathcona Park. Treat this as a destination hike or just one of the stops on a longer alpine adventure.
