Here’s a pleasing family walk through woodland, meadow and berry fields, ending at spacious picnic grounds around a spring-fed swimming pool for the children. Much of this park is a feat of reclamation. For years this region has been scarred by the extraction of gravel, but abandoned workings are being transformed into lakes and ponds and the area now supports a network of hiking and equestrian trails. If this sounds somewhat artificial, rest assured that the trails are countrified and peaceful, graced by wildflowers in season and alive with birdsong. The route suggested can easily be shortened or lengthened by referring to the map.
