Binoculars and a good field guide for identifying ducks will add to the enjoyment of this gentle hike, which invites a lot of stopping to check out beaks. The work of Ducks Unlimited is much in evidence along the valley's length. A series of water control structures regulate the water level in the ponds and in Watson Creek, which links them. From the entrance gate, one path heads directly down the middle of the valley in the direction of the ponds, while another heads uphill left. You can choose either one—they meet up farther along. The upper trail is treed, while the lower one is through open meadow. Both are very pleasant walks.
