The quickest way to Elk Lakes Provincial Park is from Peter Lougheed Provincial Park via West Elk Pass-a mere half-day walk. This, the southern half of the route, is an upgraded Indian trail traveled by such notables as Arthur O. Wheeler, Walter Wilcox and George Pocaterra. Of course, if Highway 43 Association had their way the pass would be crossed by a paved highway, thus doing away with routes #91, 92 and 93, not to mention a half dozen ski trails. One can imagine the park filled to bursting point by tourists catered to by one of those fast turnover eateries with attached gift shop selling scenic place mats.
