When K Country took over the trail was upgraded and realigned at the avalanche slope, destined to be trodden by a torrent of grateful hikers and skiers clad in Gore-Tex and Spandex. You can make the pass every time. Don't emulate Wilcox, though. A long weekend is recommended for seeing the sights. And it's still a tedious pull to treeline but astonishingly easy after that.
