Expect flat going on fire road, the only climbing occurring at the end as you climb over the watershed to Big Elbow trail in the Elbow River valley. En route there are many options including a more interesting finish on pack trail. As you will have twigged, the Alberta Forest Service continued the fire road over Tombstone Pass and down the Little Elbow. In the days when you could hike it by car, it was not a road to be taken lightly and, lacking a tank, one came equipped with an axe, chains, hemp ropes and portable logs for numerous river crossings. So pack Tevas.
