Looking for a wild ride? The valley of the south Castle River may just be what you need. This remote logging road extends 18.6 miles up this valley, finally ending at the base of the Continental Divide. An out-and-back, its total distance can be as lengthy as 37.2 miles by the time you return to your vehicle. Before you head out, make sure you're prepared for a long trip into a remote mountain valley. The actual length of this ride varies, as most riders do not follow the trail all the way to its terminus. You can vary the length as your mood desires. The views of the peaks of the Border Range are spectacular, and they become more frequent as you head farther up the valley. This is a wilderness ride, so be prepared for self-rescue. Be sure to bring maps, a good repair kit, and extra food and water.
