Black Canyon Creek

Black Canyon Creek Professional Review and Guide

"This rather long day hike leads through old-growth forest and past swamps where blue herons can be seen at two viewpoints. The first viewpoint is from a surveyor's benchmark overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley; the second overlooks the gorge of Black Canyon Creek.

The well-defined trail leads to a small meadow. As you enter the meadow, look sharply for a secondary trail that leads to the left. Turn onto this trail; if you continue on the main path you will end up at Goldeye Lake."

"This wooded singletrack leads alongside Black Canyon Creek from Frontier Lodge to the Saskatchewan River valley. The ride then follows the rolling powerline doubletrack to Hwy. 940 and finishes up on roads.

Begin at Frontier Lodge on the singletrack between the two lower cabins, then keep left at two junctions and you are on your way. Watch for a tricky spot on a cutline at km 3.2 where the trail jogs left for about 15m."
