This rather long day hike leads through old-growth forest and past swamps where blue herons can be seen at two viewpoints. The first viewpoint is from a surveyor's benchmark overlooking the North Saskatchewan River valley; the second overlooks the gorge of Black Canyon Creek. The well-defined trail leads to a small meadow. As you enter the meadow, look sharply for a secondary trail that leads to the left. Turn onto this trail; if you continue on the main path you will end up at Goldeye Lake.
