Distance 4 km from campsite, height gain 433 m, high point 2246 m. Generations of ungulates moving between the Elk Valley and the Highwood River have gouged a staircase up the headwall of McPhail Creek. From below it's not easy to pick out. In 1936, after one failure to climb the headwall by its left-hand side, Raymond Patterson was only alerted to the trail's presence by the movement of sheep.
