True to its name, lower Cataract Creek is an attractive blend of waterfalls, deep green pools, riffles and quiet stretches where the water moves lazily over shallow pebble beds. Most campers head for the upper falls. Adventurous hikers should consider going right through, utilizing the old pack trail that crosses the creek three times. Bear in mind the Highwood River at the north end is impassable during runoff and over knee-deep the rest of the year.
