Located in Highwood Region of Kanaskis Country Provincial Recreation Area. This is a great ride that takes you into a wilderness valley with plenty of opportunities for exploration. Along this 13.4-mile out-and-back, you're treated to exquisite views of Mount Bishop and the peaks of the Elk Range. Adventurous souls may choose to continue beyond trail's end and hike to Loomis Lake itself. The lake has a magical emerald-green color and also contains cutthroat trout- so bring your rod and your fishing license. What's the catch? Well, you need to cross a major ford of the Highwood River along with a seemingly endless number of crossing of Loomis Creek. The lake option also requires being comfortable with map and compass as you will be following a rough, hiker-defined trail. Despite these obstacles, it's a great place to explore and a fun, if wet, ride.
