The trail begins with an urban character, passing through a rural landscape beneath the towering face of Crowsnest Mountain. Once you pass the McGillivray Flats Snowmobile Staging Area, the trail's character changes to become a wide four-wheel-drive route heading up the valley of McGillivray Creek. Distances will vary with your perseverance level, but an average would be around 12.9 miles. With the increase in distance traveled, the condition of the trail becomes wetter and wetter. You need to be prepared for wet feet on this ride, and be sure to take it only in dry weather. Once you reach the upper end of the valley, the road deteriorates and a rough track climbs up toward an outlier of Seven sisters Mountain. For most riders, this will be a hike, but the views open up as you gain this final bit of elevation.
