Prairie View Trail

Prairie View Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Prairie View Trail is located on Highway 40 in Kananaskis Country Provincial Recreation Area. If you like climbing high above the valley to attain excellent alpine panoramas, this 10-mile loop is for you. It's a beginner trail to the viewpoint, but becomes expert beyond that point.

The trail climbs a good fire road to a ridge above Barrier lake. From there, the emerald green waters of the lake are unbelievably brilliant. Across the valley, the imposing face of Mount Balky juts above the valley. From the main viewpoint, the trail climbs a small rock face before descending steeply to the valley bottom. A winding, technical, roller-coaster stretch takes you through the trees and eventually joins with the Stoney trail, a good fire road, to bring you back to the trailhead at Barrier Dam."
