This is an easy stroll around a beautiful pond which looks so natural it's hard to believe it used to be a gravel pit. Take the trail which leads between the biffy and the wood pile to the lakeshore. The trail wanders past picnic tables to a bridge over a small creek feeding the pond. From the interpretive sign look west to Mt. Allan where the site of the coal mine is marked by a patch of bright green gas. Continue around the north shore which has a sandy beach at this point. Not far from the lake you'll find concrete foundations of Norman Holt's truckers' camp. Cross another bridge over the outlet. Any left turn will return you to the parking lot.
