Many years ago, Rick's dad, Alvin Guinn, took a string of 20 packhorses over the ridge from Galatea Creek to Ribbon Lake. Well, not by this route exactly. He went up the avalanche gully further to the right. By the time he reached the ridge night was falling and in the need to hurry he led his horses straight down the scree slope to Ribbon Lake! Next morning he looked for a better route back and that's when he discovered Guinn's Pass, spelt with an apostrophe, please.
