Every time I've been to Rummel Lake the normal way I've always met a hiker who's come in from the Chester Lake trail. They are usually found recuperating at the junction and talking in a quivering yet wondering voice about `the grizzlies'. Don't let this deter you from following this route; there's never been a close encounter and the trail between the two lakes, or to be scrupulously correct, between the two access trails, is surprisingly scenic. But with all those grizzlies around, it's best to be a group.
