Great Divide Trail: Old Fort Point to Colonel Creek trail junction Professional Review and Guide
"Moderate climbs over three remote passes on poor trail. Thru-hikers are the only folks who would start this segment from Old Fort Point near Jasper. You can drive to the Miette River trailhead described as the south access and remove 24.1 km of road walking from this long and challenging segment. Miette/Centre Pass at the head of the Miette River is an absolute wonder—a dream destination for any backpacker. This pass on the Divide is easily five square kilometers of open and rolling meadow tethered to towers and icefalls at its fringes. You will have the opportunity to find several such special places over the distance of this leg of the GDT."
