Skogan Pass is located east of Canmore near Dead Man's Flats, Alberta. This 12.6-mile point-to-point or out-and-back trail takes you from the Trans Canada Highway over Skogan Pass and then descends to the Kananaskis Valley near the 1988 Winter Olympic downhill site. It is almost all wide fire road, so it's passable for beginners, as long as they have a high fitness level. The climb is 2,221 feet in only 6.11 miles between the trailhead and the pass. As you climb, the views to the east stretch to Canmore and beyond- all the way to Cascade Mountain near the town of Banff. Later, as the trail drops down the north side of the pass, the views of Mount Kidd and The Wedge open up, and the Kananaskis Valley unfolds in front of you.

Starting at pidgeon mountain resort the trail climbs steadily up, and up, and up. I love this kind of riding, continuous uphill constantly shifting between the granny ring and the middle ring, it's nice when the trail enters the forest part way up and you stay in the middle ring and hammer, I've done this trail many times over the years and there is one place up near the top after a long sweeping right hand turn and you enter the forest I have gotten a weird feeling and the hairs in the back of my neck stick up for no apparant reason, this has happened to me numerous times and always in the same spot, I never really acknowledged it till one day after a ride me and my hammer bud were talking about some of our rides and he mentioned the same spot on this trail and the same feeling, freaky man, I think this section of the woods is haunted or something, maybe something evil has happened here sometime in the past. But I still love this ride and the downhill on the way back to the resort is an absolute gas, downhillers would love this if they had the ambition to get their rigs to the top.
