Easy walking along wide trails and gravel roads. This is the Alexander Creek valley in late June: the creek in flood and snow on the peaks. This leg of the GDT depends on motorized trails and gravel roads. The ideal route for hikers would lie nearer the Continental Divide, however, the segment does have some redeeming qualities. The ATV trail breaching the Divide through Deadman Pass is an enjoyable walk. The prominent features such as the castellated spires of Seven Sisters and Crowsnest Peak are ever-present companions. A short alternative route allows southbound hikers to walk the crest of Iron Ridge into the town of Coleman. This is a rough welcome mat to the Crowsnest Pass but worth the effort if your pack is light. Coleman has a limited tourist industry and does not have a campsite within the town. The alternative to finding a motel room in Coleman is to camp on the GDT, outside town limits.
