Benchlands Trail Networks Professional Review and Guide

"For many years this ride remained one of the secrets of Canmore's hard-core elite, but with the publishing of the Canmore Alberta Recreation Map in 1999, the secret is out. Riders from all areas are learning to appreciate the magic offered by this narrow singletrack network.

While the distances can be varied, this sample loop stretches for 5.38 miles, but distances can be easily doubled by staying on the high line of the bench and winding all the way to the community of Harvey Heights. Along the way, the views are fabulous, highlighted by all the most famous peaks of the Bow Valley. As you emerge onto the bench, the views to the west are unobstructed, stretching from Mount Lougheed to the south all the way to Cascade Mountain to the north."

I've been in the Canmore area for a few years now and have yet to fully discover the full extent of the Benchlands trail in Canmore. The description really says it all about this trail. It's a real grunt to get on the bench but once on top the ride is truely amazing. Rumour has it that the trail is considered for closure in 2002 due to pressing human / wildlife issues in the area.
