Rye Ridge is located at the southern extent of Highway 40 along the Forestry Trunk Road, within Kananaskis Country Provincial Recreation Area. This pleasant intermediate-level loop provides a combination of impressive mountain faces and streamside cycling. The total loop is 19.66 miles and seems just the right length. The trail begins with a short road roll along lazy Cataract Creek, after which it follows a good, wide gravel logging road. The quality of the road varies with the weather. The views west toward the High Rock Range and north to Mount Armstrong open up. Take some time on the grassy meadow to drink in this panorama, as it ends all to soon when the trail quickly drops off the summit and heads down steeply.
