Before the Bragg Creek Hostel burnt down in the spring of 1984, "Elbow trail" (not to be confused with Elbow Valley trail, Big Elbow and Little Elbow trails) was a popular route with hostellers traveling to Highway 66. Nowadays its complex mix of logging roads, cutlines and cutline access roads are ski trails. Rather than follow the original route in its entirety, I'm diverging along the more scenic Iron Springs trail to Iron pond which makes a logical destination from both trailheads if you don't want to go all the way through.
