To most people, the words Canyon Creek are synonymous with Canyon Creek ice cave; relatively few hikers bother to go farther up this magnificent valley despite a beckoning trail that goes right through to Powderface Trail the highway. Be prepared for 19 creek crossings! When George Dawson traversed the "Canon branch" from west to east in 1884 he noted "at high stages of the water the route would be impassible". True. Don't go at runoff. NOTE: In the fall of '97 Ings Mine parking lot was moved down road "in the name of public safety" to discourage "the unprepared" from visiting the ice cave. Take a bike for the first 5.7 km of road bashing.
