Hastings Ridge Rider

Hastings Ridge Rider Professional Review and Guide

"This is one of the finest cycling trips in the Crowsnest. The uphill is steady but gentle, the upper section is almost level with marvelous vistas, and the downhill is steep and fast. It's one of those wonderful rides you will wish could go on forever."

"The trail is located in the Crowsnest Pass along the Highway 3, within the community of Hillcrest. This arduous trail provides spectacular view of the peaks surrounding the Crowsnest Pass. With an altitude gain of approximately 2000 feet, it climbs a high pass between Hastings Ridge and Hillcrest Mountain. The views from this pass are spectacular, with the impressive faces of the Flathead Range dominating the western skyline. From the pass, the trail drops to either Lyons Creek or Drum Creek roads.

The trail forms a loop of approximately 12 miles via Drum Creek and 24 miles along Lyons Creek. During the floods of 1995, the Drum Creek route was badly damaged. The trail is a route-finder's dream. Don't even think of riding it without a topographic map and a compass. Like many trails in the Crowsnest area, it is often a jumble of unmarked junctions and alternate trails. But the rewards are worth the confusion, and this trail is highly recommended."
