A must if you're using Straps
Great, simple, solution to keeping your straps from slipping off the ends of the bars, too bad they don't come standard. Never tried applying a ton of force to them, but they feel like they bite inside the crossbars pretty securely.

So handy they should come with the bars
I use my yakima racks for both work and pleasure. I carry everything from sports gear to lumber and ladders. These end caps are so much better than the stupid push-on plugs that come with yakima gear. They should just do away with the silly plugs and provide these instead. They're sturdy enough to hook bungees to and to stop straps and bungees from sliding off the end of the bars. They screw in much more securely than the plugs, but the plastic innards still seem a little flimsy for my taste, I would have preferred a metal expansion plug for true confidence. I'd trust these to light to medium weight loads, but not something like a canoe, find a more secure attachment method for that.
