Good quality, not ideal for all kayaks
We bought this to haul a Hobie Mirage Oasis tandem kayak (90+ lbs with a very wide bottom). It's not an ideal fit but it works because the saddles are pretty flexible rubber/plastic material. It's a little bit squishy and jiggley because the kayak is so heavy but it holds the boat on the car just fine on the freeway and on twisty roads (the bow deflects around about 1" over bumps but otherwise doesn't move).I think we could have actually hauled this kayak upside down because of it's shape (it's a sit-on-top with a rim-like shape on top), but we'd need 36" bar pads, and we'd still need the tie-down and bow/stern straps and the Mako comes with great straps (easy to use and won't slip).The Mako would work great with smaller (40-50lb) kayaks, though if I had a couple of those it would probably be more stable and maybe even cheaper to get a set of towers (that hold the

did not fit my large fishing kayak
My review is only relevant and food for thought for others looking to hold large tandem fishing kayaks that weigh about 80+ pounds. I am return these saddles and the hully rollers because they did not pair well with the shape of my boat's hull. I then called my kayak manufacture's cust service who recommended that saddle type mounts can even damage their hulls if left on during hot days. They recommended hauling my boat upside down, no pads needed. In fairness, I thought these saddles were a good value, and if I had a more traditional boat shape I would have likly been more pleased. Great straps - good build quaility. If fact, now I need to buy my own straps, and I want these yak straps!

Worth the extra money
Very good piece of equipment. Like I said It's very easy to use and pairs nicely with the Hully rollers. There are two straps to hold the boat on. One strap would make me feel more comfortable. Love the product and have since purchased three sets for my cars.

Excellent Kayak Cargo Solution
I've used the saddles with a number of different kayaks (14' to 18') and both Yakima and Thule racks. They install quickly and handle freeway speeds securely.
