"Hi! I'm Bill with Zoar Outdoor here on behalf of expertvillage.com. We are here today at Chapel Ledges in Ashfield, Massachusetts, the trustees of the reservations property. In this series, we are going to be talking about anchors for top rope climbing. Another method for creating a self-equalizing anchor with a few pieces of gear involves a knot called the bowline on a bight. It does not bear a lot of resemblance to the other bowline you have learned, but it ties like this. A long bight, tie yourself an overhand, take the loop of the bight, pass it over the top and pull it all together. In order to use this to self-equalize an anchor; pull one of the legs long while the other's short. Now I have a solid knot with a long loop and a short loop. Good! Step 1. Step 2, clip the long loop to your anchor points and then pull down your middles, clip them to the small point and there you go. I am self-equalized with a solid knot and my anchor rope heading down to the edge of the clip."

The first and most fundamental thing is never hike alone. There are too many situations, especially as an unexperienced hiker, where you may find yourself without anyone to help you. So the buddy system works and applies very much in hiking.
