Transcript for: Using a Campus Board when Indoor Rock Climbing

"In this segment we are going to go over a very famous rock climbing tool called the campus board. A campus board has a series of wooden sticks, essentially, that are all numbered from one at the bottom all the way to the top. This is to build finger strength and explosive power. This can be used in a number of ways. First Caitlin will demonstrate more of a beginner technique, her feet are still on the ground, she's kind of sagging away from the campus board and she moves from one campus rung to another, up and down, again this is for finger strength core tension. For a mid section there's a number of different ways you can move the hands that's a more dynamic way. And now when you are more advanced you will climb without your feet. This is to gather explosive upper body strength. So as Caitlin moves up she is not using her feet. You can do this both up and down for the negative. Do this in a variety of ways and that's campus boarding."
